After the last post, regarding the dark mood of the new F/W Versace’s collection, I remembered a portrait I did a couple years ago for the band Annihilation. The photo shown bellow is my favorite.
Photo. Filipe Serralheiro // Model. Fábio Silva
Fábio Silva, the singer/guitar player had a really interesting image to him. And I knew I had to take advantage of his awesome tattoos, dreadlocks and his overall menacing look. ( He’s actually not menacing at all, in fact he is one of the nicest persons I know).
The shot itself is nothing more than a standard portrait, and kind of common place for a metal musician portrait. But by carefully controlling the light and enhancing the contrasts between all the darkness (tattoos, hair, background…) and his skin, I felt really happy with the end result. So now I’m sharing it with you! 🙂
Back then I still used my old Canon 10D and these portraits were shot using only a Canon 430 EX Speedlight and a small Photoflex Umbrella. I have some older photos from their early formation from around 2004/05, wich were actually my first photo shoot ever while still at college. I’ll maybe post them here some other day, so stay sharp! 😉
For those of you who like a little heavier music be sure to check their work here!
A quick secret though! This photo was originally shot in a white background, but after I turned it black in post-production, it gained so much more strength! What do you think?
Cheers!
