Guerrilla Girl – by Nathaniel Goldberg

I came across this great editorial, in Models.com site. I just love this kind of visual and photographic out of place  influences! 🙂

“Considering the complex (and often antagonistic) relationship between the fashion industry and rights issues like human trafficking and fair labor, the idea of a luxury freedom fighter is a bit of an oxymoron. Not that you can’t fight for equality while wearing Celine pumps, but real life rarely offers such opportunities.

Of course that has never stopped fashion from, editorializing the fantasy of guerilla girls dressed in the season’s latest trends. V Spain serves up an intriguing take on the theme with a slick story shot by Nathaniel Goldberg and featuring a series of chic pieces from Margiela, Ralph Lauren and of course Celine all chosen by Gillian Wilkins. The images present a vision of well dressed rebellion and are dedicated to “all the courageous women who defend their ideals. They are masters of their own destiny, their voices songs that celebrate the beauty of freedom.”

Beautiful words, but how do you feel about the pictures? Sporting perfectly tilted berets and wildly hair coiffed by Shon, Edita looks like exactly what she is – a stunning top model playing dress up in revolutionary drag. In some pics it works, especially when she gives that powerful gaze, but even with a dagger in hand or holding down a semi-automatic, she still seems wildly out of place. Perhaps that is intentional – we can’t help but get some Patty Hearst, gun wielding socialite vibes in a couple shots. Let us know what you’re getting from this story in the comments.” – Models.com

Versace Fall/Winter 2012/13 – Dark and Glam

So, looks like next season will be all about Darkness, with Versace borrowing some visual aspects of the Goths.

I dont’ know how the Gothic community will take the fact that all of a sudden they’ll be all fashionable and mainstream! 😛

I actually like all the concept of dark and glam! I tend to insert that dark and obscure feel to my own photographic work, wich means that in the next editorials i shoot i’ll be playing at home, yeah!!

Here’s some insight from FashionTV on Versace’s F/W collection, as shown in Milan‘s Fashion Week.

“MILAN – Besides the fact that dark and glam is a major trend this season at Paris Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2012-2013, Donatella Versace had something darker in mind with this collection. Just before he was murdered, her brother Gianni Versace (the original designer at the Versace label) showcased a darker, more modern collection in July 1997. He never got to promote that new collection due to the tragedy, but it seems Donatella herself is ready to do so by amping up the dark and gothic motifs in her latest collection for Versace. True, there was something severe about the entire collection, from the too-short bang to the rimmed eyes, but that’s what Donatella was obviously going for. Leather, skin tight body con dresses, armor, corsets, chains, and even her signature paillettes were bulked up in full force. Gianni this wasn’t but Donatella has once again proven that she’s doing a stellar job as his successor. ” – FashionTV

MUFE makeup courses

Make Up Forever’s professional make up courses continue to be a big success in Portugal, thanks to its representative Expansão York, with classes both in Lisbon and Oporto.

This time i present you with the great work from Ana Soares, one of the students that finished her course last month. Here are some shots i took.

For this photos i used three Profoto Pro Heads attached to 2 Profoto Pro-B3 Air blocks. 2 of the heads, with regular Zoom reflectors were used for the background and the other head was used as keylight with a white Beauty Dish.

On each side of the model i had a white reflector board and, from beneath, a Photoflex Silver reflector disc.

As usual i used my good old Canon EOS 7D with a Canon EF 24-70mm  f/2.8 L USM.

Good News!

After being featured by Profoto and in the italian Vogue website the fashion editorial “Show me the night”, shot for BLESS magazine, was once again awarded with a new feature in an international fashion website, based in New York. This time it was  fashionserved that presented us with a feature on their website. Oscar Ramos Orozco, Fashion Served‘s editor, wrote the following e-mail:

“Hello Filipe,
Congratulations! One of your projects was just featured on fashionserved.com and will appear on its front page. We developed our network of category-specific Served sites to further showcase the best projects on the Behance Network, offering your work even more exposure.

Our editorial team features only a small number of projects every day. With many thousands to choose from, we look for work that promotes new thinking in its industry.

Congrats, and thanks for being involved in the Behance Network.

Make Up Forever Photoshoot

At the end of last month i shot the first of several make up shoots in collaboration with the international brand Make Up Forever.

I headed to one of their portuguese offices in Oporto and photographed the work of one of their students, Márcia Almeida. Using a two Profoto heads attached to a Profoto Pro-7s. One with a white beauty dish, in front of the model, and another one just to light the background, as i wanted a nice clean white background.
